Peacebuilding & Social Cohesion in Kenya
Building Peaceful Communities Through Dialogue, Trust & Inclusion
Communities for Africa Network – Kenya (CAN-K) is a peacebuilding NGO in Kenya working to strengthen social cohesion, prevent conflict, and promote peaceful coexistence across diverse communities.
We believe peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the presence of justice, inclusion, and trust.
When communities lead, change lasts.
Why Peacebuilding Matters
Across Kenya and beyond, communities face social divisions caused by:
Displacement and migration
Resource competition
Political tensions
Misinformation and mistrust
Social and economic inequality
Without strong community mediation systems and inclusive dialogue platforms, small disputes can escalate into long-term conflict.
CAN-K works to strengthen grassroots peace structures that prevent conflict before it grows.
What We Do
Strengthening Community Peace Structures
We support local peacebuilding mechanisms by:
Strengthening community mediation systems
Training local leaders in conflict resolution
Facilitating structured dialogue forums
Promoting collaborative problem-solving
Our approach ensures communities resolve disputes peacefully and sustainably.
Refugee–Host Community Integration
As part of our refugee support and social cohesion work, we:
Promote inclusive, area-based approaches
Support refugee–host community collaboration
Align with national inclusion frameworks such as the Shirika Plan
Encourage shared access to services and opportunities
We work to ensure displacement does not create division — but opportunity for inclusive growth.
Peace Education & Community Outreach
We expand peacebuilding through:
Peace education programs in schools
Outreach in churches, clinics, and public spaces

Youth engagement initiatives
By engaging children, youth, and community leaders, we build a culture of non-violence and dialogue.
