Refugees, women, youth, and vulnerable populations are often excluded from decisions shaping their lives.CAN-K exists to change that.Founded in 2013 by experienced humanitarian and development professionals, the organization was created to bridge the gap between global policy frameworks and grassroots realities. After years of service within the United Nations and international NGOs across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, the founders returned with a shared vision:To build a community development organization in Kenya that listens first, works alongside communities, and strengthens local leadership to drive sustainable solutions.Active operations began in late 2025, bringing global expertise Lillian brings specialised expertise in child protection, access to justice, refugee law, durable solutions including local integration, complimentary pathways and fraud prevention and mitigation.\n\nHer career spans extensive service within UNHCR operations across both hardship and urban contexts, including Lebanon, Niger, Chad, Kakuma Refugee Camp and Nairobi in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Rwanda, and Pakistan. Through this work, she has supported refugees and asylum seekers from diverse backgrounds, contributing to key protection processes such as Refugee Status Determination (RSD), resettlement and complementary pathways, registration, child protection systems, and fraud prevention.\n\nAs Executive Director, Lillian provides strategic leadership and oversight for the design, implementation, and coordination of CAN Kenya\u2019s programs, ensuring alignment with national laws, international human rights frameworks, and donor requirements. She leads the organization\u2019s mission to defend human rights, strengthen community protection systems, and advance access to justice, with a particular focus on women, people with disability or vulnerability, children, refugees, and stateless persons. Her leadership skills are well-demonstrated through her successful management of multicultural teams and her role in developing strategic gender programs. He has taught in leading universities in Kenya and abroad including the United States International University\u2013Africa, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (CDMHA), The Technical University of Kenya, and Riara University. His research footprint extends across Southeast Asia, with extensive fieldwork in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka. His findings have been presented at major international conferences in Kenya, Uganda, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands, and Italy.He holds a PhD in Peace Studies, multiple postgraduate degrees from the University of Nairobi and Chulalongkorn University and has contributed to humanitarian initiatives across Africa and Asia. His work has earned him international recognition, including the 2023 Most Impactful Social Innovators Leader Award and the 2017 Rotary Peace Fellowship.\n\nHe currently serves as Kenya Incoming Country Director at Adroit Associates and Executive Director of Beyond Borders Research &amp; Consulting (BBRC). He is also a Subject Matter Expert at the National Defense University\u2013Kenya and has provided advisory, training, and research support to the African Union, IGAD, UN agencies, governments, INGOs, and civil society organizations. A Rotary Peace Fellow, Positive Peace Activator, and former Regional Director (East &amp; Southern Africa) for the Institute for Economics and Peace, Dr. Odaba also sits on the International Advisory Board of Amani Communities Africa and coordinates the Kenya chapter of Association of Conflict, Peace &amp; Security Experts in Africa
